Reconnection and Outreach of Adults: Teaching
Environmental Discovery

About us
How did it start?
The ROOTED project began with a simple observation: while nature plays a vital role in our wellbeing, many adults—especially older people—are becoming increasingly disconnected from it. Limited mobility, urban living, and fewer opportunities for outdoor learning often make this connection harder to maintain with age. To respond to this, BirdLife Malta joined forces with partner BirdLife organisations from Greece, Poland and Spain, together with Europsky Dialog, bringing expertise in environmental education, adult learning, and digital engagement. This partnership laid the foundation for ROOTED, creating a shared vision to reconnect adults with nature through accessible activities, storytelling, and innovative digital tools, while strengthening bonds between generations.

Πώς μπορούμε να αλληλεπιδράσουμε ως μέλη μίας οικογένειας στη φύση; Ποιο είναι το όφελος από αυτήν τη συνύπαρξη σε σχέση με το δομημένο περιβάλλον; Με ποιον τρόπο ένας δάσκαλος εμπνέεται από τα στοιχεία της φύσης; Πώς μπορεί ένας άνθρωπος μεγαλύτερης ηλικίας να δει τη φύση μέσα από τα μάτια των παιδιών; Πώς λειτουργεί η φύση ως πρότυπο στη ζωή όλων μας; Ο Ανδρέας, ως εκπαιδευτικός αλλά και ως γονιός, μοιράζεται μαζί μας τις σκέψεις του και την εμπειρία του από την κοινή δράση στη φύση Andreas and Eugenia talk about intergenerational coexistence in nature, the common but also creative presence of young and old in a free, unstructured environment. How can we interact as members of a family in nature? What is the benefit of this coexistence in relation to the structured environment? How can a teachers be inspired by the elements of nature? How can an older person see nature through the eyes of children? How does nature function as a role model in the lives of all of us? Andreas, as an educator and as a parent, shares with us his thoughts and his experience of joint action in nature.
