Who runs this website

This website belongs to the ROOTED project (“Reconnection and Outreach of Adults: Teaching Environmental Discovery”, Erasmus+ project 2024-1-MT01-KA220-ADU-000249391). The project is run by five partner organisations: BirdLife Malta (the coordinator), the Hellenic Ornithological Society (Greece), OTOP (Poland), SEO/BirdLife (Spain) and European Dialogue (Slovakia).

BirdLife Malta looks after the website for the partnership. It is your contact for any question about your data (see “Contact” below).

In short

  • This website does not use cookies.
  • It does not use analytics, tracking or advertising tools.
  • It has no contact forms, accounts or comments, so it does not collect your name or e-mail address.
  • Nothing is loaded from other companies when a page opens. Fonts, pictures and scripts come from this website itself.
  • Videos, podcast players and maps from other services are loaded only after you click a button (see below).
  • If you change the accessibility settings, they are saved on your own device only.

What is recorded when you visit

Our host, Hostinger, delivers the pages to your browser through its servers and its content delivery network. Like every web server, it records technical data when a page or file is requested (server logs): your IP address, the date and time, the address requested, the response code, the amount of data sent, the page you came from, and details of your browser and device. This is needed to keep the website working and secure; our legitimate interest in running and securing the website is the legal basis (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). The project does not use these logs to identify visitors. Hostinger keeps them for a limited time and handles them under its own privacy policy: Hostinger privacy policy.

The search on this website runs in your browser. The words you search for appear in the address of the search page, so they may be recorded in the server log like any other web address.

Accessibility settings

The “Display” button at the top of every page opens a panel where you can change the text size, spacing, font, contrast and more, and switch on touchscreen mode. Your choices are saved in your browser’s local storage on your own device, under the name “rooted-a11y”, so that they are still there on your next visit. This is not a cookie, and the settings are not sent to us or to anyone else. You can remove them at any time with “Reset all settings” in the panel, or by clearing this site’s data in your browser.

Content from other services (loaded only after you click)

Some pages show content from other services. Nothing is requested from them when the page opens. Instead you see a placeholder with the name of the service and a button. Only when you click the button does your browser load the content from that service. The service then receives your IP address and technical data (for example your browser and the page you are on) and may set cookies or use similar technology. The company may also process data outside the European Economic Area. This is governed by the service’s own privacy policy, which we do not control. Every embedded item also has a link to open it on the service’s own website in a new tab.

Links to other websites

This website links to the websites of the partners and to other sites, for example news articles. If you follow such a link, the privacy policy of that site applies.

Photos and recordings

Some photos and recordings on this website show or feature people who took part in ROOTED activities. If you appear in a picture or recording and would like it removed, write to the address below and we will remove it as soon as possible.

E-mail

If you write to us by e-mail, we receive your e-mail address and your message. We use them only to answer you, and keep them only as long as needed for that.

Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you have the right to ask for access to personal data held about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its use, and to receive it in a portable format. Where data is processed with your consent, you can withdraw your consent at any time. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority: in Malta this is the Information and Data Protection Commissioner, and you can find the authority of your own country on the list of the European Data Protection Board.
